Nicholas Kristof Lecture September 20
Pulitzer Prize winner Nicholas Kristof, author of Meredith’s 2010 Summer Reading Program selection “Half the Sky: From Oppression to Opportunity for Women Worldwide,” will lecture at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, in Jones Auditorium.

Kristof’s visit is part of the 2010-11 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Presidential Lecture Series at Meredith College. The series supports Meredith’s campus theme, which for 2010-11 is “Critical Thinking for Critical Times.”
A columnist for The New York Times since 2001, Kristof earned a Pulitzer in 1990 with his wife, Sheryl WuDunn, for their coverage of the Tiananmen Square democracy movement, and another in 2006 for commentary on genocide in Darfur and other parts of the world.
In “Half the Sky,” Kristof and WuDunn explore issues faced by women around the world, and offer ways readers can help make a difference.
Seating is limited in Jones Auditorium, but overflow viewing will be available in multiple locations. The lecture is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.
Tickets will be distributed on the day of the lecture.
Meredith Students, Faculty and Staff: Tickets for the Kristof event will be available in the Jones Auditorium lobby beginning at 3 p.m. on September 20. Meredith students, faculty and staff are eligible for one ticket for themselves and one for a guest and will be required to show a Meredith College ID.
Public Tickets: Beginning at 6 p.m., any remaining tickets will be available to members of the public. Once the auditorium is full, guests will be directed to overflow video viewing locations.
A public reception in the rotunda of Johnson Hall will follow Kristof’s lecture. This reception is open to all guests.
