Meredith to Hold Chopin Festival and Competition

The Meredith College Department of Music is hosting a competition and festival to celebrate the bicentennial of composer Frederic Chopin’s birth.

Highlights of the festival will be guest recitals by pianists Ann Schein and Walter Hautzig.

Schein will perform works by Chopin and Schumann on February 24 at 8 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. Hautzig’s performance of works by Chopin will be February 25 at 8 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. All events are free to Meredith students, faculty and staff with a Meredith ID. Tickets are $25 for each of these concerts.

As part of the festival, Meredith is sponsoring a Chopin Competition for pre-college students. Hautzig and Schein will judge the finals, which will be held on February 23 from 1-5 p.m. in Carswell Concert Hall.
