Speaker to Discuss Internet Safety Today Meredith’s School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences Speaker Series will sponsor a lecture on internet safety on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at 5 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium. Linda Criddle, the author of “Look Both Ways – Help Protect Your Family on the Internet” will present a lecture titled “Virtual World and Real Risk.” Learn what factors have come together to create an environment that makes online crime easy and what it takes to address these factors and to solve the problems consumers, businesses, and governments face. Criddle’s presentation will guide the audience to a deeper understanding of the landscape of risk and will offer practical tips on online safety. Criddle has collaborated with several international law enforcement agencies, helping with investigations into the online activities of child predators. She has worked with many government organizations in the U.S. and around the world to prepare online safety regulations and legislation. She is at work on a second book that aims to teach the industry how to build safer software and services. The lecture is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Meredith College STARS Student Leadership Corps. This lecture counts as a convocation.
