Meredith Student Athletes in Food Drive Competition Meredith’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is conducting a food drive this month as part of a competition taking place between all institutions in the USA South Conference. Though the food drive will begin October 21, the committee began planning for the event early in the month. The drive will continue into November up until the week before Thanksgiving. According to SAAC member Charis Hill, the student organizers “wanted to get the word out as soon as possible so we could feed as many mouths as possible with all the food we collect and to show alumnae what Meredith’s student athletes were doing in addition to their competition on the field or court.” The competition consists of all schools in the USA South Conference, which are Greensboro College, Christopher Newport, Ferrum, Averett, Meredith, Methodist, Shenandoah, N.C. Wesleyan, Mary Baldwin, and Peace. The object is to see which institution can collect the most canned food items/nonperishable goods. Each school then chooses the organization to which they would like to donate their collected food items. The winning school receives a trophy to display until the following year. Once the competition begins, Meredith’s standing in the food drive will be found at www.meredith.edu/athletics/advisory-committee.htm. Acceptable donations include both food items and monetary donations. Anyone wishing to make a donation and/or drop off goods can contact Charis Hill at hillchar@meredith.edu. There will be collection boxes around campus at locations, including in Belk Courtyard during Can Art for Cornhuskin’ on November 4. Posted October 15, 2008. Date Submitted: 2008-10-15 |
