Meredith MBA Student Wins TBJ Stock Derby Meredith MBA student Kathy Hughes is the winner of The Triangle Business Journal’s Stock Derby. Hughes, vice president of operations at Atlantic Creative Communications, competed against MBA students from UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, Duke and North Carolina Central University. Each participant was asked in March to mock invest in five stocks at $10,000 each for a total starting portfolio of $50,000. Hughes’ portfolio was worth $63,216, up 26.43 percent, at the end of the six-month-long contest. The results were announced in the September 7, 2007, issue of The Triangle Business Journal.
