The Class of 2016 also includes 60 honors scholars, the largest incoming class of Honors Program participants in Meredith history. This is a 40% increase over the number of honors students who entered in the previous class.

Meredith is also welcoming 29 students who will be in the first class of Meredith College Teaching Fellows. Since 1987, Meredith participated in the prestigious North Carolina Teaching Fellows program, which is designed to attract motivated, high achieving N.C. high school seniors who are interested in teaching. The College launched its own Teaching Fellows program after the North Carolina Legislature voted to phase out the statewide program. Meredith students who have participated in the N.C. Teaching Fellows Program have been well-prepared for success. Of N.C. Teaching Fellows who have graduated from Meredith College in the last three years, 100% have passed PRAXIS II, and over 95 percent are currently employed or in graduate school.

Another successful new initiative is Meredith’s Impact Raleigh Program, which will have 111 participants in 2012-13. This initiative highlights the impact Meredith students have on the local community and enhances each participant’s college education through service, learning and academic opportunities. The program, which includes a renewable $1,000 grant, selected participants from Wake County high school graduates.

“Impact Raleigh is an opportunity for our students to make an impact in their community, and for Meredith College to continue to give back to Raleigh and Wake County,” said Associate Vice President for Enrollment Danny Green.

In addition to the increase in first-year students, Meredith College also expects higher enrollment among undergraduate transfers and graduate program participants.

New Options for Transfer Students
In 2012, Meredith College signed onto the NC Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) Articulation Agreement with the North Carolina Community College system. This agreement simplifies the transfer process for community college graduates. In addition to guaranteed transfer of all eligible credit hours, these students enter Meredith as juniors, are eligible for additional need-based financial aid, and register early with the junior class.

“We anticipate at least 75 transfer students to join the Meredith community in Fall 2012,” Green said. “Many of these students are coming to Meredith with an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from a North Carolina Community College.”

In honor of signing the articulation agreement, Meredith now offers scholarships for women who have successfully completed their community college experience and choose to complete their bachelor degrees at Meredith. These scholarships include a $5,000 award for Phi Theta Kappa members with at least 30 hours of transferrable credit; and a $10,000 award for N.C. Increased Enrollment in Graduate Programs
Meredith College has seen a 45% increase in the number of students interested in beginning graduate study this fall. Approximately 75 students have enrolled in Meredith College’s graduate programs, compared to 52 students at the same time in 2011. Applications also increased this year from 216 in 2011 to 313 in 2012. Meredith offers coeducational MBA, M.A.T., M.Ed. and Master of Science in Nutrition graduate degrees.
