What is OneSearch?
OneSearch allows users to search
multiple databases simultaneously. It is a federated search
engine, also known as a meta-search, that is powered by WebFeat.
How can I access OneSearch?
Users can
access OneSearch in two different ways, starting from the Articles
& Databases links on the library
homepage:
Can I access OneSearch from home?
Yes. Like all library databases,
users can access OneSearch from anywhere off campus with their
last name and Meredith ID or patron barcode.
Does OneSearch search all the library’s databases?
No. Only databases compatible with
the OneSearch search interface have been included. Click
here to select databases to search from the complete
list of OneSearch databases. To see a complete list of all databases
available at Carlyle Campbell Library, click
here.
Can I use OneSearch the same way I use other databases?
Yes. However, because OneSearch
searches across multiple databases with differing interfaces,
the simpler the search strategy the better. Multiple keywords
and Boolean operators can be used, but searchers are advised
to limit the use of nesting, truncation, and other complex search
methods.
Where are the search limiters (full-text, peer reviewed, etc.)?
Not all the databases included in OneSearch use
the same limiters, which can lead to problems in the search
results given. Because of this, we have eliminated the option
to limit searches in all ways except by date. When limiting
by date, though, please note that the results may include articles
outside your specified date range. Check results carefully to
ensure accuracy.
How can I get assistance with OneSearch?
Simply contact a Reference Librarian
at (919) 760-8095 for help with OneSearch. Alternately, individual
contact information for Reference Librarians can be found here.
