Loan
The Music collection is part of Carlyle Campbell Library and adheres to Carlyle Campbell Library's circulation policy. Exceptions are addressed in the following policy. In cases of unique or restricted materials, responsibility for permission to circulate or renew rests with the Circulation Supervisor.
The Music collection contains several types of restricted and unrestricted circulating materials:
- Scores: Printed music for either study or performance
- Media Materials: Audio, audio/visual, and software materials
- Reserve Materials: Materials designated by faculty for in-house use only. See the Reserve Collection Policy for more information
- Reference Items: Print and non-print materials in the reference collection restricted to in-house use only
- Microforms : Materials in micro formats, such as microfiche and microfilm
- Special Collections: Materials restricted due to their unique and/or historical value
LOAN PERIODS for Undergraduate and Graduate Students
- Books and Scores: 21 days (2 renewals)
- Media materials: Recordings/Videos - 3 hours in-house use only. (No renewal)
- Music Education Curriculum Materials: 21 days (2 renewals)
- Reserves: 3 hours in-house use only (No renewal)
- Reference: Do no circulate
- Microforms: In-house use only (No renewal)
- Special Collections: In-house use only (No renewal)
- Checkout Limit: 75 items
Loan Periods for Faculty and Staff
- Books and Scores: Due in August of each year (2 renewals)
- Media materials: Recordings/Videos - 14 days (2 renewals) Equipment varies
- Music Education Curriculum Materials: Due August of each year (2 renewals)
- Reserves: 3 hours in-house use only (No renewal)
- Reference: Overnight with permission (No renewal)
- Microforms: Circulate with special permission (No renewal)
- Special Collections: 1 day with permission (No renewal)
- Checkout Limit: 75 items
*Overnight Circulation: Items circulated on an overnight basis must be returned to the Circulation Desk no later than one hour after opening the next day that the library is open.

Loan Periods for Non-Registered Patrons
- Books and Scores: In-house use only
- Media Materials: 3 hours in-house use only. Must provide I.D. (No renewal)

- Reserves: 3 hours in-house use only. Must provide I.D. (No renewal)
- Reference: In-house use only
- Microforms: In-house use only
- Special Collections: 3 hours in-house use only (No renewal)

RENEWALS may be made in the following ways:
- Online
- By telephone
- In person
HOLDS AND RECALLS
- All patrons may put a hold request on an item that is checked out to another patron. This is done online or by contacting a Library Staff member. When the item is returned, the hold requester will be notified.
- Only Meredith faculty, staff, and students may put a recall request on an item that is currently checked out. The item will only be recalled after the current borrower has had the item for one checkout period, or 21 days, which ever is shorter. If a faculty member wants to put a currently checked out item on course reserve, the item will be recalled immediately regardless of the length of the checkout period.
- When recall and hold items are received from the current patron they are held at the Circulation/Reserve desk for a period of one week. Items not checked out by the requesting borrower within one week will be reshelved.
INTERLIBRARY SERVICES
- Requests for Interlibrary Loan may be made at Carlyle Campbell Library
- An Interlibrary Loan request form is also available online
- Available to Meredith faculty, staff and students
FINES and FEES
General Information
- Fines and fees may be paid with cash or check to Meredith College
- Overdue fines will accrue to a maximum of $35 per item
- Faculty and Staff borrowers are not charged overdue fines
Overdue Fine Rates
- Books and Scores: $ 0.10 per day
- Media Materials: $1.00 per hour
- Reserves: $0.50 per hour
- Curriculum Center: $1.00 per day
Lost and Damaged Materials
- Books that are lost or returned to the library damaged by any borrower are charged to the borrower. The Preservation & Conservation department staff has responsibility for determining whether a damaged item can be repaired or must be replaced
Fees
- Replacement: Current list price plus $25.00 processing fee. If the item is later returned in good condition, the patron will be issued a refund for the list price portion of the fee
- Repair: Bindery charge of $10.00 plus $25.00 processing fee
Penalties
Any library user's borrowing privileges will be suspended if:
- the library user owes fines or fees of more than $ 3.00
- the library user owes fees for an item that has been damaged while on loan
- the library user neglects to return a recalled item within 14 days of notification of recall
Student university records may be tagged, preventing registration or release of university transcripts, for any of the above
Borrowing privileges for faculty members may be blocked if the faculty member has lost/billed charges of $200 or more
