Q:
Exactly who must complete this tutorial?
A:
Any transfer student who has received credit at another institution
for English 111 must take the tutorial.
Q:
Why do I have to complete this tutorial?
A:
As a part of the new General Education curriculum (fall 2003),
all Meredith College students are expected to be proficient
in the area of library research and information literacy.
Within English 111 at Meredith, all students participate in
an information literacy component of the course which includes
completion of the online tutorial, class sessions in the library,
and a final research-related assignment. While transfer students
have covered necessary English content in 111 at former institutions,
they often have not covered the Meredith-specific library
research material that is integral to understanding the basics
of successful academic research. Therefore, completion of
this online tutorial exposes transfer students to the fundamental
information literacy concepts covered in English 111, and
also ensures they will be prepared for more advanced concepts
in English 200 and beyond.
Q:
When should I have this tutorial done by?
A:
Transfer students must, at the latest, complete the tutorial
before they take English 200. However, the earlier students
have knowledge of these concepts, the easier research related
assignments will be.
Q: Do I need to confirm with anyone once I have done it?
A:
You do NOT need to confirm with anyone once you have completed
the tutorial. Each time you finish a module, your name and
registration information is automatically entered into a database
that maintains these records.
Q: Whom should I contact if I have questions or problems?
A: Questions about this requirement or your records: Paul
Winterhoff, Director of General Education
Questions about the tutorial or follow
up, library related information: Susan
McClintock, Reference Librarian
