THE MATH
CENTER
There are basically two ways to get math help through The Learning
Center. The first is by appointment where you are guaranteed a tutor's undivided
attention. The second is through the Math Lab and the third is to use our computer,
text book, and video tape resources.
- To utilize the one-on-one tutoring, you need to make an appointment by signing up on the
sheet posted outside the entrance at 122 Jones. Our mathematics tutors provide help
in Algebra I and II, MAT 90, MAT 130, 141, 143, 144, 211, 212, 220, 245,
262, and 313.
We ask that you limit yourself to two half-hour sessions in a row with a total of two
hours per week. After your appointme
nt, your instructor will be notified that you
came to The Learning Center for help.
- Computer CDs that directly correspond to some of the textbooks are
available for us in the center. CDs that can help you with Pre-Algebra, Algebra
I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, and Calculus are also available. In
addition, we have most of the solution guides that correspond to the text books.
All of these resources are available to
you whenever The Learning Center is open.
A mathematics tutor can help you with
- note taking skills
- how to approach assignments
- problem solving strategies
- studying for class quizzes, tests, and exams
- studying for the quantitative portion of the GRE or Praxis exams
- solving specific problems
- mastering your graphing calculator
- mastering TI-Interactive.
We encourage you to come for help early and often!! Please do not wait until you
feel you have fallen behind in the subject to get help. It is much better to come in
for an hour or two each week and stay on top of it. You'll feel better and you'll do
better. See you soon!
