Daisy Okoth: I am a 4th year, Business administration major and minor in sociology. I live in Nairobi the capital city of Kenya. I have lost family members and close friends through HIV/AIDS and this has made me more interested in learning about HIV/AIDS. My passion for knowing more about HIV/AID led me to join a peer counseling group in my campus and we encourage other students to change their behaviour and be aware of HIV/AIDS. Apart from peer counseling, I love dancing and watching movies. I thought my talent was acting but I didn’t make it in the auditions of our schools play and I decided to rest my case. During the holidays I volunteer in community services like cleaning up dirty areas in the city, visiting orphans in the children’s home. I am looking forward to learn about your experiences and views about HIV/AIDS.

My name is Damaris Wanjiku, am a third year student in Kenyatta University, taking B.A Sociology and political science. I choose the degree because I have a big heart for my society and would like to help the poor and try and create an atmosphere where everyone will be in the middle class. This is my short term goal with the degree my long term goal is to become a politician to try and minimize corruption and emphasis on an economical oriented society rather than a total political oriented society that is I would bring more development. I choose to join the HIV/AIDS Training consortium to get to know more on HIV/AIDS and how people from different part of the world react/behave towards it and how I can handle people living with the virus. I also joined the group to meet new pals and have fun. When am not in class I love hanging around with my pals, watching movies I love dancing so much, traveling and joking.

I spend most of my time practicing my career that is I.T, basically I love surfing the net. I also like being involved in the social activities. I am now starting to explore the art of cooking and it is somewhat fascinating and fun trying a new dish and sees it turn right. My hopes for the course are to learn more about HIV/AIDS, get the background of the pandemic disease and learn how I can help the society with this knowledge.

I am Elvis Oluoch, currently a third year student at Kenyatta University in Kenya. I take Bachelor of Science in environmental health. It has ever been my dream to live in a nation, continent and if in any case a world without complaints about diseases. This has been the cause of my pursuit to this course. Is it possible to get to that level? Imagine this question is left for both you and I to answer!

I have interest in the prevention of diseases not only those whose prevalence is in my locality but those cutting across all the continents with HIV aids taking the lead. This surely tells why I have no alternative but to be an epidemiologist and with my existing bond to traveling, I tell you this profession suits me and it is to see me into my dreamland cities all over the world. I too like football and debates because of the challenge it (debate) brings with it, to think and differentiate logic from myopic arguments. I too like swimming.

I come from the lake region of Kenya, Nyanza province, Siaya district. Lake Kanyaboli is close to my home. Being an ox-bow lake and a habitat to fish, I have ever remained to like fish for my meals. In college I am a member of the Kenyatta university students Aids Control Organization (KUSACO) in which I serve as a vice-chairman. It is through this organ with the support from Aids Control Unit in the university that we advocate for behavior change towards the fight against HIV/Aids. I am also a member of different organizations and clubs within and without the university like TakingitGlobal (TIG), International Society for Industrial ecology (ISIE) in which I serve as the newsletter chair.

My name is Bristone Moses Mkaya from Western province of Kenya. Born in 1984 the 26th Feb in a family of two boys, am a third year student in the department of Special Education pursuing a bachelors degree in Health Impairments and Neuropsychology. Other than special education, I study English and child psychology and sincerely speaking, I like my course.

God willing I plan to pursue a master’s degree in Physiotherapy and degenerative disorders in two or three years to come.

I like special education because I like helping the needy people in the society. Personally I was orphaned when I was five years old and have only made it through God’s grace to this level of education.

I got a scholarship from Canada through an Ngo called African Canadian Continuing education Society (ACCES). I am a Christian who has been working with HIV/AIDS organizations in the university and currently is the organizing and publicity secretary of Kenyatta university students aids control organization (KUSACO). Am interested in HIV/Aids related issues because I have seen my relatives and friends dying of the same ad I have taken it as a burden to me. It is my responsibility to fight it. I want to see an AIDS free society.

My hobbies are listening to music watching movies, making friends, watching soccer and rugby, reading and writing plays and poems. My greatest fear is the fear of the fear itself. Am interested in what people say about me because it has been always a challenge to develop my personality.

I look forward to knowing you better and I believe that as time goes by we will know each other better.
Thanks for reading my profile.
