My name is Chivonne Thayer, and I am a Junior at Meredith University. My major is Biology and my minor is Chemistry. After graduating from Meredith I plan on continuing my education in a Physician Assistant program at another university.
I am from Rochester, NY where I lived up until I graduated high school. After high school I wasn't ready to start college yet so I joined the U.S. Navy for four years. Being in the military afforded me the opportunity to travel to a lot of interesting places. I have been to Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Guam. Joining the military ended up being a really good decision for me because I had a lot of great experiences and the G.I. bill has paid for almost all of my schooling up till this point.
I am a huge animal lover and I sometimes spend my time volunteering at different organizations that are aimed at helping animals. I also own three of my own dogs and sometimes take in strays and find them good homes.
I am looking forward to taking this class because I think it is important to see the world from at global perspective. I believe seeing the world from this view leads to understanding and appreciation for other cultures besides your own. I also think it will be interesting to have the opportunity to speak will some of the students in Kenya and learn about their lives.
