Benefit Summary
Benefits are available to all regular employees who work a minimum of 1,000 hours per year or 20 hours per week unless otherwise noted. Employees who work 30 or more hours per week in a regular assignment are classified as full-time equivalent and are eligible for payments from the College for certain benefits.
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Carolina Health Insurance: Three health plan options are offered: the Health Savings Account (HSA), the PPO-123, and Opt-Out. Employee only, spouse, child(ren) and family coverage options are available.
- USAble Life Insurance: A benefit amount of up to 2 1/2 times the employees annual salary is provided by the College at no cost to the employee. This benefit is available to all full-time equivalent employees. Coverage may be converted, and in certain instances be portable, to individual coverage when employment ends.
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Carolina Dental Insurance: Available to any regular employee who works 1,000 or more hours per year. Annual benefit is $1,500 per person. Major services are covered at 50% after a 12 month waiting period unless a prior coverage credit can be applied.
- Superior Vision Insurance: Available to any regular employee who works 1,000 or more hours per year.
- Section 125 Flexible Benefits Plan: Full and part time (1000+ hours) employees may elect to tax-shelter a portion of their salary each pay period for reimbursement for childcare ($5,000 annual maximum) or medical expenses ($2,500 annual maximum). Premiums, other than long term disability and long term care, will automatically be “flexed” for tax purposes.
- Retirement:
- Faculty and Administrative Positions: After one year of full-time employment or with verification of past participation, regular, full-time equivalent faculty or administrative employee working a minimum of 1,000 hours per year will receive a 5% contribution toward a 403(b) plan. The employee is required to contribute a minimum of 5% of their salary to the plan.
- Staff Positions: After one year of regular, full-time employment working a minimum of 1,000 hours per year, non-administrative, non-faculty employees receive a 5% contribution toward a 401(a) plan and are not required to make a contribution.
- Both types of plans are 100% vested from first day of participation.
- Both TIAA-CREF and VALIC optons are available.
- Supplemental Retirement: TIAA-CREF and VALIC options are available to allow additional employee contributions up to the limit allowed by federal law. Plans are 100% vested and may be modified as necessary.
- Long-term Disability: After one year of full-time employment or with verification of past LTD participation, full-time equivalent employees are eligible to enroll in the long-term disability plan through Lincoln Financial. The rate for this coverage is determined by salary amount. Half of the premium is paid by the College, with the employee paying the remaining half. LTD benefits include a continuation of salary (60%) and continued contributions toward retirement plan.
- Tuition Remission Opportunities : After six months of full-time equivalent employment, employees may request to take up to six hours of courses on campus, free of charge (fees other than tuition may apply). Dependents are also eligible after the employee's sixth month of full-time employment.
- Tuition Exchange Opportunities : Additional tuition opportunities may be available for dependents of full-time equivalent Meredith employees through two programs; the Tuition Exchange Program and CIC-TEP. A limited number of tuition waivers are granted each year to allow full time employees and their dependents who are admitted to participating colleges and universities.
- Annual Leave: Full-time staff and administrative positions earn 96 hours (12 days) of annual leave beginning with their date of employment (prorated in the first calendar year of hire) and the amount is then increased by one day every other calendar year. For example, 104 hours will be available for use in year three and four, 112 hours will be available in years five and six, 120 hours in years seven and eight, etc. The maximum annual leave amount that can be earned in a calendar year is 160 hours (20 days). Full-time employees may carry over a total of 40 hours of accrued but unused annual leave to the following calendar year. Part-time employees (working 1000+ hours) earn and may carry forward leave amounts on a prorated basis.
- Sick Leave: Full-time staff and administrative positions will earn 96 hours (12 days) of sick leave per calendar year. Any accrued and unused sick time will be carried forward (up to 404 hours) for a maximum balance of 500 hours. Faculty may request up to 90 days of leave due to an illness or injury.
- Personal Day: Full-time staff and administrative positions are awarded one day of personal leave per year to be used for their birthday or a personal or religious holiday.
- Maternity Leave : Full-time equivalent employees who give birth are eligible for up to six weeks paid time off. (Up to 12 weeks total time off may be requested under FMLA.)
- Parental Leave: In addition to the Maternity leave benefit, there is also a Parental Leave policy for adoptive parents and fathers that allows up to three weeks of paid leave with up to 12 weeks off for FMLA.
- Long term care: Significant discounted rates provided by Genworth for employees and their families, extending to parents, brothers, sisters, and children. Employee enrollment within the first 30 days of employment is available without medical questions asked.
- Catastrophic Leave Program: After one year of employment, full-time equivalent staff may elect to participate in the Catastrophic Leave Bank by making a donation of their own leave. In the event of a catastrophic illness that depletes their own leave time, they would then have the option of requesting additional leave from the leave bank.
- Emergency Assistance Fund Program: This program is available to assist eligible employees who are experiencing a personal financial crisis and who have exhausted all other avenues for obtaining assistance. The program is designed to provide limited assistance and is not a loan. Funds are donated to the program through employee and non-employee generosity.
- Paid Holidays: The College offers an average of 15 paid holidays per year, including a week or more off for Christmas.
- Reduced Summer Schedules: Most departments on campus also offer reduced summer schedules with offices closing at noon on Fridays. This is approved on an annual basis.
- Direct Deposit: We offer the convenience of payroll direct deposit. Employees may use any banking facility.
- Carroll Health Center: Services available for employees; office visits for $20. Available to any employee.
- Working on Wellness - WOW!: Employee health programs, exercise classes and much more.
- Use of Campus Facilities: Free use of swimming pool, tennis courts and exercise facilities during specified hours.
- Free Parking: Free convenient parking is provided in a secure environment.
- Library Access: All employees have access to the Carlyle Campbell Library.
- Credit Union Membership: All employees have the option of joining the Baptist Credit Union and/or Coastal Federal Credit Union and taking advantage of services provided for members.
- Free Prescription Delivery: from Hayes-Barton Pharmacy
- Book Store Discount: The campus bookstore offers a 10% discount on merchandise for all employees.
- Dining Services Discount: Employees may dine for a special rate.
- UPASS Program: Employees and students can ride CAT buses fare-free by showing their CamCard.
- Free Emergency Ride Home: Want to take the bus to work? Vanpool, carpool, walk or bike? Afraid to give it a try because you might need your vehicle for an emergency? Sign up for free emergency transportation through Triangle Transit Authority.
- Travel Abroad Program Discounts: Special offers are made available to employees who would like to participate in one of the many travel abroad programs offered each year (participation in some programs may be limited).
- Beautiful Campus Work Environment: Meredith College is located on 225 beautiful acres, in the heart of Raleigh, NC. The campus is unique and offers many beautiful views and easy access to the greenway.
