Tuition Remission for Employees:  After completion of six months of full-time employment and with the approval of the supervisor, a regular, full time employee may take up to six credit hours per semester at no cost for tuition, provided the enrollment does not deprive a tuition paying student of a place in the class.  (Summer school is to be considered as one semester.)  A maximum of three credit hours per semester may be taken during the employee’s regular working hours.  Should the class period fall within the employee’s working hours, the supervisor may require make up time.  Generally, make up time will not be required if the course contributes to the improvement of the employee’s skill in the performance of his job.  In courses which normally require fees in addition to tuition, the employee will be expected to pay the fee.  This benefit does not extend to continuing education non credit classes offered by Meredith College.

Tuition Remission for Dependents:  All qualified dependents of regular, full time employees of Meredith College may attend the College without tuition cost over and above the North Carolina Legislative Tuition Grant.  This assumes that the dependent is eligible to be admitted under standards established by the College and is able to maintain an acceptable standing.  All special fees, including course fees, tutorial instruction, admissions charges, student activities fees, registration fees, etc. will be payable as will charges for room and board where applicable.  Free tuition ordinarily applies only on a non-resident basis.  Where dormitory space is occupied to the exclusion of a paying student, tuition will be charged.  However, should space become available in the dormitory so that a student can become a resident student without excluding a tuition-paying student, the dependent may thereafter remain a resident student and retain the right of free tuition.  A qualified dependent is determined by the same standards and conditions applied by the Internal Revenue Service for Federal Income Tax purposes.

Tuition Exchange Programs: Meredith College participates in two exchange programs.  These are scholarship programs.  Employees are eligible to apply to the program but there is no assurance of approval.  Generally the decision to approve is made by the importing school and a student must meet their guidelines for acceptance to the program.  Please see HR for additional information about these programs and application forms.
