Meredith Honors Outstanding Faculty and Staff

Meredith College honored outstanding faculty and staff during the annual Meredith College Faculty and Staff Awards and Recognition Ceremony, held in Jones Chapel on April 27, 2007. Faculty/staff award recipients for 2007 are as follows:

PAULINE DAVIS PERRY AWARDS

Catherine Rodgers, professor of theatre, and Steven Roten, assistant professor of theatre, Award for Research and Publication and/or Artistic Achievement

Judy Dearlove, associate professor of English, Award for Excellence in Teaching

The Pauline Davis Perry Award for Research and Publication and/or Artistic Achievement is given to a faculty member who has done exceptional research, publication and/or artistic achievement. The Pauline Davis Perry Award for Excellence in Teaching is given to an outstanding teacher at Meredith.

LAURA HARRILL PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS

Marie Chamblee, dean of the School of Education, Health and Human Sciences
Elizabeth Wolfinger, dean of the School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences

The Laura Harrill Presidential Awards are presented to two faculty members each year, in recognition of their noteworthy contributions to the advancement of Meredith College.

HARRY AND MARION EBERLY FACULTY DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

Pamela Winfield, assistant professor of religion and philosophy

The Harry and Marion Eberly Faculty Development Awards are given to deserving faculty members for the purpose of helping them progress in their area of expertise.

The cash awards are funded through the Faculty Applied Meredith Endowment, or FAME, established in 1977 as an independent fund for supplemental faculty benefits.

PRESIDENTIAL STAFF AWARD

Pamela Davis, director of human resources

Established in 2002, the Presidential Staff Award is given in recognition of exemplary service to the Meredith community. The Meredith College president chooses the recipient.

STAFF RECOGNITION AWARDS

Jill Triana, assistant director of the counseling center
Charlie Dunn, housekeeping

Staff Recognition Awards are presented annually to two staff members who, through their job performance, have demonstrated initiative, teamwork, extra effort and outstanding customer service to the Meredith community.

The awards ceremony also celebrated faculty staff longevity. Employees with five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 30+ years of service were recognized.

Retiring faculty and staff members were as follows:

• Pat Abrams, admissions recruitment programs assistant;
• Charles Davis, professor and head of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science;
• Rosalie Gates, professor of history
• Carol Hazard, professor and head of the Department of Chemistry, Physics and Geoscience;
• Charles Lewis, associate professor of chemistry, physics and geoscience
• Loretta Pearson, health services nurse; and
• Margaret Sexton, library technical services assistant.
