2006 Outstanding Faculty & Staff
Meredith Honors Outstanding Faculty and Staff Meredith College honored outstanding faculty and staff during the annual Meredith College Faculty and Staff Awards and Recognition Ceremony, held in Jones Chapel on April 21. Employees with five, 10, 15, 20, and 26+ years of service were recognized. Included among these was Willie King, postal carrier in Meredith's post office. King was recognized for his 50 years of service to Meredith College. Meredith's post office was renamed in his honor. Retiring faculty and staff were also honored during the event. - Virginia Knight, dean of natural and mathematical sciences joined Meredith in 1987, is a past recipient of the Eberly Faculty Development Award and the Harrill Presidential Award - Marueen Banker, associate professor of art 1980 alumna, served 18 years on the faculty, including 10 years as director of galleries - Ruth Pearce, director of health services served 17 years and initiated free flu shots, faculty / staff fitness classes and a student wellness program - Barbara Robinson, assistant housekeeper supervisor joined Meredith in 1984 as a member of the housekeeping staff
Faculty/staff award recipients for 2006 are as follows: PAULINE DAVIS PERRY AWARDS: The Pauline Davis Perry Award for Research and Publication is given to a faculty member who has done exceptional research, publication and/or artistic achievement. The Pauline Davis Perry Award for Excellence in Teaching is given to an outstanding teacher at Meredith.
LAURA HARRILL PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS: - Laura Davidson, dean of library information services - Beth Mulvaney, associate professor of art
HARRY AND MARION EBERLY FACULTY DEVELOPMENT AWARDS: The Harry and Marion Eberly Faculty Development Awards are given to two deserving faculty members for the purpose of helping them progress in their area of expertise. - Jennifer Hontz, assistant professor of mathematics - Greg Vitarbo, assistant professor of history and politics The cash awards are funded through the Faculty Applied Meredith Endowment, or FAME, established in 1977 as an independent fund for supplemental faculty benefits.
PRESIDENTIAL STAFF AWARD: Established in 2002, the Presidential Staff Award is given in recognition of exemplary service to the Meredith community. The Meredith College president chooses the recipient. - Kevin Walker, copy center manager
STAFF RECOGNITION AWARDS: Staff Recognition Awards are presented annually to two staff members who, through their job performance, have demonstrated initiative, teamwork, extra effort and outstanding customer service to the Meredith community. - Bill George, database programmer - Louise Silver, housekeeping |
