Meredith College is proud to host the North Carolina Honors Association Annual Meeting in 2008! This year's theme is "Learning for the Environment/Environments for Learning."

The conference topic is intentionally broad and lends itself to multiple interpretations in order to bring together student research from many disciplines. The terms “environment” and “environments” are used in a variety of scholarly ways. “Environment” is commonly used in studies that have an ecological/biological focus. The term also is used in very different ways in the fields of architecture, education, sociology, art, and medicine. The examination of the effectiveness of classroom configurations, the study of uses of interactive exhibits in museums, and an overview of the iconography of cave art at Lascaux would each address in some way the theme, “environments for learning.” How does mathematical modeling enable us to understand the world? Isn’t the virtual world of a novel an environment for learning?
