Meredith Honors Alumnae - Jessica Willson, '05

Jessica WillsonI Speak My Mind

I got involved with Meredith's Model UN team for the writing, research and public speaking—all things I'm going to need in order to be an attorney. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the Model UN conference last year was that I did not feel like a student. I felt like I was experiencing the UN as it must really be. You spend the weekend debating huge government concerns…the student delegates are not afraid to discuss anything. The only thing I was disappointed in was that we couldn't send our resolutions directly to the 'real' UN and have something passed. The key is to be outspoken. The judges want to see participation—no one has a chance to hide."

Jessica Willson, '05. First-year law student, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

At Meredith: Presidential scholar, Model United Nations team president.

Academics First: "When I received the Presidential Scholarship, I saw it as a huge honor. I wanted to prove to them they gave the scholarship to the right person."
