NEW PROGRAM! WALKTOBER
Now is the time to start your walking program! This a 30-day program to help kick-start your walking program - whether you are just starting out or an avid walker this is for you.
Use the log card and your Walktober leaves stickers to track your progress throughout October. Your goal is to accumulate 20 or more stickers during the 31-day program by recording dedicated walking minutes or by using a step-counter (pedometer) - which we will give you when you register.
HOW TO GET STARTED
- Complete the Walktober registration form found HERE
- Information flyer found HERE
- Return the completed form to WSP Annex 103 along with a check for $10.00 (made payable to Meredith College. When you complete the program (return your log and program evaluation) we will RETURN your $10.00 check and you keep the pedometer. Now that is a WOW! deal!
- You are NOT required to purchase a pedometer to participate in Walktober. Just return your registration form.
- We will arrange pedometer and tracking log pick-up days and times.
- Join us on Wednesday, October 1st @ 12:15 for our kick-off walk.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH!
EVERYONE WHO COMPLETES THE PROGRAM WILL BE ENTERED TO WIN ONE OF TWO (2) $50.00 GIFT CARDS FROM FLEET FEET IN RALEIGH!

In addition to open hours, we have dedicated the following times to faculty/staff ONLY use in the fitness center: T,Th 12:30-1:30 p.m. During this time we will have staff available to assist you with all your fitness programming.
NOTE: Faculty and staff are welcome to utilize the fitness during all our open hours

Assessment includes: aerobic baseline measure, body composition, circumference, flexibility and muscular endurance

Programming includes goal setting, exercise plan and implementation strategies
Exercise Program Orientation
Upon completion of your assessment and programming appointment, you may schedule time in the fitness center to learn how to implement your aerobic and/or strength training plan
Circuit Training – add some muscle to your routine in no time with this strength training and cardiovascular circuit class. The class runs about 40 minutes and an orientation appointment is highly recommended. Email wow@meredith.edu to schedule.
Aerobics – energize your soul and get moving with aerobics. Format varies slightly from class-to-class but all modalities are low impact in nature and geared to all fitness levels.
Walking – we hit the road at all speeds in this multi-level class. Get away from your desk and enjoy the scenery for 30-35 minutes.
Fitness Yoga - based on Ashtanga Yoga, is an invigorating practice, combining a series of poses through flowing movement, or vinyasa. It is designed to heal the body and promote a sense of well-being. It improves strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, and self-awareness. Breath is connected with each movement to create and maintain heat in the body, while reducing stress, increasing energy, and calming the mind. All levels welcome. Bring your own mat if you have one.
Functional Flexibility - This class take the best of traditional stretching, yoga and Pilates and blends it into a format that everyone will love. This is a great class for anyone interested in exploring and implementing a personal stretching program. As with most programming, there is a strength component.
Pilates - A unique exercise regime designed to stregthen and balance the body. A movement based program which targets the deep postural muscles which in turn can help re-balance the body bringing it into correct alignment leaving it energized and stress free.
Power Flex - A complete strength training class that focuses on all muscels, one song at a time, and incorporates dumbbells, bands, stability and floor work.
Step & Sculpt - Low impact step cardio conditioning intertwined with short resistance intervals designed to sculpt and mold your body! Class focus will be cross-training major muscle groups with hand weights, body weight exercises and stabilization work for balance mixed with low impact cardio.
