Exercise and Sports Science - Programs of Study
Meredith College offers a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Exercise and Sports Science with two areas of concentration; and also a minor in exercise and sports science
- Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Physical Education (leading to North Carolina K-12 teaching licensure)
- Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Health and Wellness, and
- Minor in Exercise and Sport Science
- Promote a learning environment which is both supportive and challenging;
- Promote opportunities for students to gain experiential knowledge and make connections with what they have learned through practicum experiences;
- Provide opportunities for students to gain skills and knowledge in the use of technology as a tool for learning, working and communicating;
- Provide experiences that prepare our students to pursue professional careers; and
- Promote lifelong learning.
Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Health and Wellness
The Health and Wellness Concentration program of study is designed for students who wish to pursue careers in areas of corporate fitness, health promotion, hospital-based rehabilitation, sport and/or fitness programs for children, youth, or adults, or who wish to seek further specializaton through graduate study. The program of study promotes critical connections between physical activity, fitness and sport performance, and their relationship to disease and disability prevention, health enhancement, and lifstyle modification.

Physical Education concentration with K-12 Licensure
The intent of the teacher education licensure program ensures that beginning physical education teachers are equipped with a multifaceted understanding that contributes to teaching, enabling them to know and organize their subject matter meaningfully, while learning forms of practice that can be employed by those who contribute and value the development of students. TStudents will be prepared as candidates for North Carolina K-12 licensure. In addition to the core curriculum, the student will complete 40 credit hours, including skill acquisition, physical education methods, and professional education classes.
