Student Dietetic Association
Students are encouraged to become student members of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) as well as the state and local dietetic associations. Attendance at professional meetings provides students with opportunities for professional growth, networking and career development. Field trips to area hospitals and food industries are part of the student’s education, and travel to the National ADA meeting is available for all students.
Student Dietetic Association promotes nutrition on campus and beyond. The organization was established in 1989 and was designed for nutrition majors interested in professional development in dietetics. The club serves to:
- promote nutrition throughout theMeredith campus and surrounding Raleigh areas,
- market the dietetics program at Meredith College,
- and explore career and volunteeropportunities in the area of dietetics.
All meetings will be posted on the Foods & Nutrition Information Board outside 114 Hunter Building.
Kappa Omicron Nuis is a national honor society for students seeking a major in the Human Environmental Sciences Department at Meredith College. Students invited to participate from the sophomore, junior and senior classes for this honor. To be eligible for membership, a student must have:
- a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (overall and at Meredith),
- standing in the upper 25% of her class,
- declared a major (first and second majors) in one of the five programs in the department,
- completed 45 semester hours with a minimum of 9 hrs in the department major, and
- shown evidence of superior personal qualities and leadership potential.
The Meredith College Nutrition and Wellness Association The Meredith College Nutrition and Wellness Association is a student run organization open to foods and nutrition majors, and other students from across campus. The mission of this group is to provide supplemental learning opportunities and experiences in the discipline to its members, educate the Meredith community on nutrition issues, and provide service to the community. A sample of this group’s activities and projects from this past year are:

- Cholesterol education Month
- National Folic Acid Week
- American Heart Month
- National Nutrition Month
- Bake sale fundraiser for Full Belly Project
- Meals on Wheels
- Congregate Meal site project
- Heart Healthy Dining Hall project
- Meredith Garden, organic and local foods Month
Meredith Association of Family and Consumer Sciences is a national professional organization open to students majoring in any area of human environmental sciences, (i.e., child development, foods and nutrition, clothing and fashion merchandising, interior design, and family and consumer sciences).
