At Meredith College, you may earn a Master of Education with specialties in elementary education, English as a second language (ESL), reading, special education (general curriculum), or academically and intellectually gifted (AIG).
Designed for the K–12 teacher who has a baccalaureate degree and has or is eligible for an initial teaching license, the co-educational program gives you the advanced tools you need to effectively serve today’s school populations.
Meredith’s Master of Education program combines both educational theory and applied practice through individualized teaching.
Meredith’s M.Ed. program fosters specialization, independent thinking and creativity. It features a curriculum that enables a student to become a teacher-researcher who:
- examines critically the purposes of education and articulates a personal philosophy of education;
- demonstrates instructional expertise by applying the theoretical, philosophical and research bases for educational practice in K–12 settings to improve student learning;
- incorporates knowledge of the nature of the learner, learning processes, variations in learning abilities and learning styles, and strategies for evaluating learning into the planning, delivery, reflection on, and evaluation of instruction;
- conducts and uses research to examine and improve instructional effectiveness and student achievement;
- demonstrates advanced depth and breadth of knowledge and skills in the academic discipline and in education; and
