Center for Creative Leadership Trainer Enhances MBA Experience

MBA students and alumni recently participated in leadership training led by a facilitator from the Center for Creative Leadership, an organization known for around the world for excellence in executive leadership training. The day-long seminar allowed students to participate in a simulation of running a company and to learn from their experiences and teamwork as they worked through out the day. The leadership seminar is one of several new programs that add value to the MBA program. Other opportunities for students that enhance the academic experience are co-curricular workshops, events with local business leaders, and opportunities for career coaching from executives. “These new initiatives support and enhance an already great academic program,” said Page Midyette, Director of the MBA Program. “We are excited about the wealth of opportunities that we are providing for our students.”

Meredith MBA Develops Leadership Skills
A review of results from EBI (Educational Benchmarking Institute) MBA alumni surveys compared our alumni responses to other national MBA programs. The aspects of our program where the greatest positive difference appeared were:  extent to which informal faculty contact increased success as a manager, leadership skills, decision making skills, ability to define business problems, oral presentation skills, interpersonal skills, listening skills, knowledge needed to succeed, and skills necessary to succeed.

These positive differences appeared against both a peer group of six institutions and against all schools in our comparable class, which means Meredith MBA alumni rated their program higher in those areas than did the alumni of the other institutions. “These data indicate that we're developing leadership skills while improving the individual's ability to analyze and solve business problems,” stated Dean Denise Rotondo. “The “positive difference" list represents what our alumni report we do really well, as compared to alumni from other MBA programs.”

MBA Alumni Landing Great Jobs at Great Companies
Recent graduates are finding great success in combining their MBA with their own work experience to land great new jobs at great companies. Recent hires include new positions at AOL, Chevron, Credit Suisse, and Quintiles. For these graduates, the skills acquired during their MBA education is the final piece that, when combined with prior work experience, helps them achieve their career goals. One of these alumni said the employer was “impressed with my presentation skills” which was “something Meredith drilled into me”. Other alumni cite techniques for problem solving, learned during case analyses, as critical to their interview process.
