Elaine Buxton, MBA Success Story

Elaine Buxton, MBA '93, is a Meredith MBA success story. As President of Confero, Inc., Buxton heads a leading firm in customer experience research services, including mystery shopping. Major clients of Confero include Coca-Cola, Ameritrade, and Lowes Foods, among others. When Buxton addressed the MBA graduates at the 2012 MBA Graduation Banquet, she credited the Meredith MBA program with giving her the skills to succeed and adapt in a constantly changing business landscape.

In 1987, following a successful stint with Wedgewood China in Germany, Buxton joined Confero, and she was named president in 1999. Under Buxton’s leadership, the firm has successfully kept a competitive edge, in large part due to Buxton's willingness to go after new and sometimes daunting, corporate business as well as to embrace changing technologies. Along the way, Confero has received numerous accolades, including being named to Inc. 5000 List of Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies in America in 2009. Other recent awards include winning the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce 2011 Pinnacle Award for Outstanding Small Business and the 2011 Stevie© Award for Customer Service Consulting Practice of the Year.

Buxton has also garnered several awards of her own. She was named to the Business Journal’s 25 Women in Business Awards in 2001 and Meredith College named her one of its Top 100 graduates of all time during a celebration commemorating the college's 100-year history. Earlier this year, Buxton was elected as the Vice Chairman of the Mystery Shopping Providers Association Global Board of Directors. She has also served on the Meredith College Board of Trustees, as President of the Raleigh Professional Women’s Forum, on the Cary Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and as Board Chair of the non-profit Life Experiences. She has been featured or cited professionally in the News and Observer, Triangle Business Journal, Business Leader Magazine, NBC News and the WTVD News. Buxton earned a BSBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and of course an MBA from Meredith College.
