To satisfy the Foreign Language competency requirement, students are encouraged to build on their knowledge of the foreign language studied in high school by taking the appropriate foreign language courses early in their college career. The department will place students at the appropriate level of a foreign language on the basis of high school units.

However, if a student has had three or more years of Spanish, French, German, Italian or Latin, or if the student has learned the language through other life experience, her skill level should be assessed during early registration or orientation through a placement test. Depending on the results of the placement test, the department will either place students in the level most appropriate for the student or determine that the student qualifies to take the competency test.

The next round of placement exams will be offered Sunday, August 19, from 12:30-2:00pm.  Students needing placement should contact Amy Hitlin at hitlina@meredith.edu by Wednesday, August 15.
