IRS Data Retrieval Tool
One way to verify income is by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool that is part of your FAFSA online. This tool allows your IRS information to be transferred directly to your FAFSA. Some categories of tax return filers however, are not able to use the tool. You or your parent(s) will not be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool if:

your tax filing status is Married Filing Separately

your tax filing status is Head of Household

you filed an amended return
Directions for using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool: Please go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Log in to your FAFSA, select “Make FAFSA Corrections” and navigate to the Financial Information section of your FAFSA. From there, follow the instructions to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
