This award provides funding for a three year continuing award to support a Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) Site program at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) entitled, "IIT RET Site: Corps of Educators and Workshop," under the direction of Dr. Alexander J. Flueck. This program will provide an in-depth hands-on research experience for 8 K-14 teachers per year for three years, called the Corps of Educators, during a 7-week period in the summers of 2005-2007. The Corps teachers will be responsibile for developing educational modules that illustrate math and science concepts that already exist in K-14 curricula. Modules may include analysis of data from scientific experiments or design of components/systems to meet certain specifications. The modules will also stress the doing of scientific inquiry and innovation, as well as the understanding of inquiry and innovation.
