If you enjoy singing, even if you have never had a singing lesson in your life, please consider joining one of Meredith’s singing ensembles.
The Meredith College Chorus sings a variety of fun literature from all eras of music. The Chorus meets MWF from 12:00-12:50 p.m., and you enroll in MUE-134-A, a one-credit course. Lots of fun and learning opportunities! Open to all singers with just a few performances. NO AUDITION NECESSARY, just sign-up! If you are an experienced singer, the Meredith Chorale comprises 30-35 auditioned singers, selected on musicianship, vocal ability and dedication to choral music. Dr. Fran Page is the conductor, and the Chorale meets on MWF from 2-3:20 p.m. This is also a one-credit course, MUE-334-A. For spring participation, auditions for Chorale will be held on Thursday, November 19, 3:30-6:30 p.m. Please contact Dr. Page at pagef@meredith.edu to set up an audition time.
Encore is a small ensemble of 8-10 singers that does early music, jazz, barbershop and some musical theatre selections. Dr. Risa Poniros is directing this group, and Encore, a one-credit course, MUE-335-A, meets T and Th, 3:30-4:50 p.m. For spring participation, auditions for Encore will be held on Thursday, November 19, 4:30-5:30 p.m. and on Friday, November 20, 1:00-2:30 p.m. Please contact Dr. Poniros at ponirosr@meredith.edu to schedule an audition time.
If you play an instrument, there are opportunities to play in the Meredith Sinfonietta under the direction of Dr. Jim Waddelow. The Sinfonietta is MUE-238-A, a one-credit course, and meets at MW, 2:00-3:20 p.m. and Th, 6:00-8:20 p.m. Please contact Dr. Waddelow at waddelow@meredith.edu for more information and audition schedule.
Music and cultural experiences are important parts of your education at Meredith, and we would be delighted for you to enjoy participating in the choral (or instrumental) programs!
