Art Education Majors Present at NCAEA Conference in Asheville Bookmark and Share
Art Education majors Beverly Mecum, Grace Martin Franklin and Kristen Piner presented at this year’s North Carolina Art Education Association Professional Development Conference held in Asheville, N.C. The three co-presented, with their professor Lisa F. Pearce, a Paper Pulp Painting Plus workshop with a hands-on focus using recycled papers for 2D and 3D forms. Instructions for incorporating the new Essential Standards for Visual Arts and the inclusion of 21st Century Skills were discussed.

The workshop was overfilled and provided Meredith students the opportunity to work one on one with participants from around the state. The conference was attended by close to 400 art educators providing participants the opportunity to network with vendors, sample new art media and learn the latest about suppliers. Over 100 workshops and presentations with a wealth of knowledge were offered enhancing professional practice and innovative teaching techniques.

The image of the mobile inspired by forms relating to 21st Century Skills in the arts was part of the many workshops our students participated in. This mobile directed by Kevin Reese of Schoolsculptures is now a permanent artwork in the NC Department of Public Instruction.
