Meredith Secures Fourth Place with 5-1 Win Over Pacers Bookmark and Share
RALEIGH, N.C. - Tonight's 5-1 win over the William Peace Pacers secured a fourth-place regular season finish for the Avenging Angels good for a home field advantage in the USA South women's soccer quarterfinals. Meredith is set to host Piedmont Saturday, October 27, in a 2:30 p.m. round-one game.

Meredith's Jessie Davis opened the scoring early in the first period on a pass from teammate Ila Torfin.

In spite of three consecutive opportunities from the corner for the Avenging Angels, the Pacers' Melissa Moran was the next to reach the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Freshman Taylor Brown ended the first frame on back-to-back goals, including a penalty kick in the 41st minute.

The aggressive battle continued after the intermission with the Avenging Angels clearing the net on two more occasions to seal the win over Peace. Davis scored at 71:17 and Megan Amanatides earned her first goal this season with just seven minutes remaining in regulation.

Meredith out shot WPU 24-5 with MC's Danielle Lee leading the way with five. Angels junior goalie Kelsey Hopper earned the win with four saves on the night.Captains from each team hold pink soccer balls featuring names of breast cancer survivors and those who lost their lives to the disease.
