One Night Out Without a Home is a night of experiencing and learning about Homelessness. It is the goal of this event to challenge students to participate in an event that will create a knowledge base about a social issue that is prominent in our community, our state, the country, and around the world. Participants are encouraged to find a cardboard box to spend the night in, for that is the preferred choice for this exercise; however, they may resort to using a sleeping bag or simply sleeping on the ground. We ask that participants do not bring pillows or electronic devices unless it is pertinent that you have these materials.
Also, for those of you who may not know, any female friends that you have are welcome to attend this event. For those of you who live in the residence hall all you will need to do is complete a guest pass for your friend and have her complete the Trip Participant Form that you have been emailed. Additionally, male guests are allowed to join us so that they too can gain an understanding about homelessness. Policy for this is that they are only allowed to stay until campus closes but we most likely will not let them linger much longer after we extinguish the fire. Note: Male guests ARE NOT allowed to stay overnight for this event!
This event will take place at the Conversation/Fire Pit between the Brewer and Heilman Residence Halls on Friday, October 12 until Saturday, October 13 from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m., with a reflection to follow Saturday morning.
Individuals who participate are strongly encouraged to bring canned food donations, but are not required to do so. If you are interested in participating in this event please email mchabitat@email.meredith.edu to receive the information for registering for the event and more information about the event.
