In January 2009, Dr. Judy Peel joined the Meredith College basketball staff as a volunteer assistant basketball coach after retiring from her position at North Carolina State University. From there her position in the Department of Nutrition, Health and Human Performance expanded.
She became an adjunct instructor of golf and bowling for the department and in 2010 took over the responsibilities as interim department head.
Her educational background includes earning a doctorate in health and physical education at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She focused on teaching at the undergraduate level with UNC-Wilmington for 11 years. While at UNC-Wilmington, she taught health and physical education methods classes, physical activity courses and a variety of health topics. In 1997, she moved to Raleigh to become department head of physical education at North Carolina State University. While at NC State she served in the provost’s office, taught undergraduate and graduate courses in sport management and directed the parks, recreation and tourism graduate program.
