Work Experience

Professional biography

In addition to being a devoted educator, Holly Fischer has an active studio practice and regularly exhibits her work. She is most known for her larger-than-life, figurative, ceramic sculptures in white clay.  Recently, Holly has been developing a series of oil paintings that complement and reference her sculptures.

Holly Fischer’s work explores concepts of femininity and the paradoxical relationship between objectification and empowerment.  She wants her work to entice through beauty.  The experience of looking is pleasurable, but viewers may find themselves disquieted by this intimate and voyeuristic act.  Sensual abstraction and the interplay of positive form and negative space create a subtle tension and become visual metaphors for the inherent duality of femininity.
