Cathy Rodgers in Gypsy

Catherine B. Rodgers has acted professionally and directed regionally for the past 30 years. Recent stage roles include portraying Gloria Winwood in Right Place, Right Time for Stillwater Theatre, Joyce in Body Awareness for Deep Dish Theater Company, Mama Rose in Gypsy for Meredith Ensemble Theatre, and Mrs. Banks in Barefoot in the Park for NC State's University Theatre.

Recent directing credits for Meredith Ensemble Theatre include Playhouse Creatures, Kabuki Lady Macbeth, Ruthless the Musical, Schoolgirl Figure, No No Nanette, and After the Fall, for which she received the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Meritorious Directing Award.

In June 2011, Rodgers was included in The Independent Weekly's annual best in regional theatre list.

Rodgers is a past President of the North Carolina Theatre Conference Board of Directors, having served proudly on that committee since 2002.  Catherine is also fortunate to be the Director of Meredith's Summer Study Abroad Program in London, and will be teaching in Sansepolcro, Italy during the spring semester of 2011. She is married to scenic designer William Rodgers and they have two wonderful children, Ginny and Chip, and a great son-in-law, Justin. Their crazy, but cuddly, bichon frise Keller rounds out the family.

Scene designer Curt TomczykCurt Tomczyk
Assistant Professor

BA in Theatre and Studio Arts Minor, Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota

Set designed by Curt TomczykCurt comes to Meredith College via New York, Massachusetts, and Maryland. He has worked as a scene design supervisor and painter for Williamstown Theatre Festival. He was also the paint charge for Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, New York and Centerstage in Baltimore, Maryland. As a designer and technical director, Curt has been on staff at North Carolina State University and Minneapolis Community and Technical College.

In 2007 Curt was honored to contribute to the Broadway productions of Cyrano de Bergerac, Sunday in the Park with George, and South Pacific, through Prop Star LLC., Brooklyn, New York.

Steven Roten
Associate Professor

Steve Roten in production of After the FallSteven Roten is a professional actor and a member of the Actor's Equity Association. He is artistic director for Stillwater Theatre, a new professional theatre company in residence at Meredith College. He is also a proud member of the New River Dramatists, an organization that exists solely to support playwrights and screenwriters.

Some of his film / TV credits include Long and Winding, Follow the River, Jane and the Evil Spinstresses, Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Madox One Metal Skin Panic.

Stage credits include: George in Veronica Vavoom: Volcanologist, Players Club NYC; George in Suddenly Last Summer (starring Diane Kagan), Daisy in Baby with the Bathwater, and Ferlin Hamblin in Beautiful Star for Triad Stage; Jack Burden in All The King's Men (directed by Adrian Hall), Malcome McLaren in Lipstick Traces, and the Red Cross Representative in Way To Heaven for Burning Coal; Jean Francois Millet in Is He Dead for Deep Dish Theater Company; Malvolio in Twelfth Night or What You Will for the Koka Booth Amphitheatre; Guido Contini in Nine, and Quintin in After The Fall for Meredith Ensemble Theatre; and probably his favorite role, Frankenfurter in the Rocky Horror Show for UNCG.

Directing credits include The Grinning Man, Un Becoming, Ledge, Ledger, and the Legend for Stillwater Theatre; How I learned To Drive, Trojan Women, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Flying Doctor and Two Precious Maidens Ridiculed (for which he recieved the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Award for Excellence in Directing), Gypsy, David's Redhaired Death, Nightingale, The Apple Tree, and Abraham and Isaac for Meredith College; and Alice in Wonderland, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Dragonsong for Applause Cary youth theatre.

Second major in Theatre, Meredith College

LeGrande Smith joined the Meredith  staff in 2007 after completing a second major in theatre at Meredith College. She has worked box office in the local area including Theatre In The Park, Cary Academy and Actors Comedy Lab. Smith has also designed costumes for Raleigh Ensemble Players, Theatre In The Park, Cary Applause Children’s Theatre and Justice Theatre Project.

At Meredith, she has designed costumes for Kabuki Lady Macbeth, Into the Woods, Gypsy, No, No, Nanette, Jerry's Girls and Top Girls. Smith is an adjunct instructor in the Dance and Theatre Department teaching box office, house management, and publicity classes. She also supervises the costume shop and theatre practicum students. She is married to Doug and has two children.
