Letter from the Senior Class President
To the Class of 2008:
The end of our senior year is just around the corner! As we approach this exciting event the commencement web site will be updated to keep you, your family and friends informed of all important dates and deadlines surrounding graduation.
I have worked with Dr. Allen Page to select a commencement speaker, and would like to thank those of you who offered suggestions. I am proud to inform you that our speaker this year will be Betty McCain, who is former secretary of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources. She was appointed by Governor Jim Hunt and held the position until 2001. McCain, who lives in Wilson, N.C., is a former member of the UNC Board of Governors, the UNC Chapel Hill Board of Trustees, a former chairman of the N.C. Democratic Party from 1976 to 1979 and co-chairman of Jim Hunt’s campaign for governor in 1976 and 1980, and was a volunteer in Hunt’s 1992 campaign for governor.
Please remember to donate to the Senior Class Gift. If 60 percent of our class makes donations the Meredith Alumnae Association will award us with a $1,500 contribution. The co-chairs have a goal of $10 per student; however, any donation is appreciated! Our gift to Meredith is to landscape the corner between Belk Dining Hall and Carroll Hall. There will be new landscaping and a bench with an inscription from our class. You may make a contribution by placing a pledge card in the box located next to the mail room, stopping by the Alumnae House, or placing it into the co-chair’s commuter mail pockets. Please contact the co-chairs, Brittany Rice, Brooke Rice or Katy Champion, if you have any questions.
