Baccalaureate Worship Service
Saturday, May 3, 2014, 11 a.m. - Jones Auditorium
Baccalaureate is a celebration and spiritual reflection for graduates as they transition from their college years to the next phase of life. Members of the Class of 2014 will participate in their academic regalia. A special invitation is extended to families and guests to join graduates for this service.
Nancy Hastings Sehested will be the baccalaureate speaker.
Sehested is co-pastor of the Circle of Mercy Congregation, an ecumenical church in Asheville, N.C. The church is affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the Alliance of Baptists. She recently retired as an N.C. state prison chaplain. She is serving as an interim pastor of High Country United Church of Christ in Boone, N.C.
She graduated with a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City in 1978, and received the school’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 1992. She is an ordained Baptist minister. She has pastored churches in Atlanta, Memphis, and Asheville during the past 25 years. She is married to Ken Sehested, co-pastor of the Circle of Mercy Congregation and former executive director of the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America. They have two daughters, two sons-in-law, and four grandchildren.
