Major: Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and Bachelor of Science in molecular biology

Career: Amber Pittman Barnes has been a biology instructor for the past two years. During graduate school, she was a part-time instructor and taught courses in general biology and advanced tissue culture at Winston-Salem State University. Since graduating with a doctorate from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2006, she has been an adjunct professor in Meredith’s Department of Biology and Health Sciences teaching biotechnology and microbiology.

“I frequently draw upon my experiences as a student and the basic knowledge that I learned during my time at Meredith to help me be a better professor to my current students.”

Advice for Current Students: “You should plan for your future career now while you are in school...You have so many options…industry, academia, professional schools (pharmacy, medical, veterinarian), so research them and find out what interests you.

Also, finding a career mentor is an invaluable resource. I had a mentor through the Women in Science program and I benefited from her wisdom and guidance while making difficult career decisions.”
