Meredith College Hurricane Relief Response
Meredith College campus sustained no lasting damage from Hurricane Irene, which caused an afternoon power outage, but no major leaks or flooding. 

 

While the Triangle area experienced minor effects from Hurricane Irene, many coastal communities were significantly affected. 

 

The Meredith College community would like to offer support to students, faculty and staff who were affected by the hurricane. 

 

If there are members of the Meredith community with immediate needs, please contact Ann Gleason, Dean of Students, at (919) 760-8521 or by email at gleasona@meredith.edu.

 

In the wake of Hurricane Irene, we know that many students, faculty and staff will want to help with the relief efforts. If you are interested in helping with the clean-up efforts, consider the following disaster relief organizations:

International Film Festival Planned
Meredith College will sponsor an International Film Festival during the 2011-12 academic year.

The series is coordinated by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, and sponsored by the Meredith College Diversity Council, the Alliance Française of Raleigh- Durham-Chapel Hill, the Office of International Programs, the School of Arts and Humanities and the Dept. of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Meredith College.

 

The film schedule is as follows:
September 20:  “Bread and Tulips” (see Upcoming Events for film description)
October 25: “Of Gods and Men”
November 15: “Women Without Men”
February 8: “Moolaade”
March 14: “Biutiful”

 

All screenings are free and open to the public and are held in Kresge Auditorium. Refreshments are served at 6 p.m. and film screenings begin at 6:30 p.m.

Alpha Lambda Delta Earns Award
The National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First Year College Students has awarded an Alpha Award at the Gold level to the Meredith College chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta. Advisors for the Meredith chapter are Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences Erin Lindquist and First Year Experience Co-Director Candice Fisher Webb.

 

The Alpha Award is National Alpha Lambda Delta’s newest chapter recognition award, honor those chapters who have initiated a notably higher percentage of their invited students. In 2010-11, Meredith’s chapter initiated 92% of the students invited to join the society.
