Second Annual Meredith Fund Family Festival Held
By Jean Gambrill, Assistant Director of The Meredith Fund

Family FestivalThe Second Annual Meredith Fund Family Festival and Welcome Back Picnic was held on Friday, August 26.

Despite the rain showers in late afternoon, the event and the fun of being together shined through the evening. Relocated to Belk West, the festival and picnic became an indoor celebration with more than 200 Meredith faculty, staff, students, parents, alumnae, trustees and friends and family members. Complete with face painting and a special mascot appearance from Mr. and Mrs. Wuf of NC State, the event was a way for the Meredith community to help kick off the new academic year.

The festival was also an opportunity to celebrate the success of the Be One in a Million campaign, which continues this year. Gifts from Meredith faculty and staff helped us raise $1 million in annual giving last year.

We appreciate the comments from our guests:

Mandy Boyers from the Office of Human Resources said it was “a fun event in spite of the uncooperative weather. I saw numerous happy children with their faces painted, eating ice cream, and saying hello to Mr. & Mrs. Wuf. Thank you to IA and the President’s Office for including the faculty and staff in this event to help build community as we start the school year!”

Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences Erin Lindquist wrote: “My husband, daughter (23 months), and I really enjoyed spending time with other faculty and staff members and their children at the event. There aren’t many other campus events where we can all come together with our kids. My daughter particularly liked getting her face painted. I must admit she was somewhat petrified of Mr. and Mrs. Wuf, but that’s because she had never seen a costumed mascot.”

Laura McNeill Cox, ’05, chair of the Meredith College Alumnae Association’s Young Alumnae Board, attended with her family as well. “I love the new tradition of the festival and picnic. My mom, also a Meredith alum, joined my family this year, which was extra special. I loved getting an opportunity to bring my daughter to campus in hopes that one day she becomes a third generation Meredith grad! Already looking forward to next year- and no rain!”

Just like Laura, The Meredith Fund Office is looking forward to celebrating with everyone again next year—and having blue skies! Thank you to everyone who attended.
