Instructor of Human Resources Kristy Dixon was quoted in a FoxBusiness.com story called “The 12 Quickest Ways to Get Fired.” Dixon was one of the human resources experts interviewed about what employees should not do at work. Click here to read the story.

 

Associate Professor of Nutrition Susan Fisher was quoted in a The Courier-Journal article on food safety on September 1. The article included tips on ways to prevent food-borne illness by washing and storing perishable foods properly. The Courier-Journal is the largest newspaper in Kentucky. Director of Residence Life Heidi LeCount was quoted in a USA Today College blog story about ways colleges help students and families reduce stress during Move-In Day. Read the post here.

 

Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences Erin Lindquist co-presented and coordinated a workshop at the Ecological Society of America (ESA) Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas, on August 7 titled, “Developing Collaborative Research Projects in the Ecological Research as Education Network (EREN)”.  Her co-presenters were:  Laurie Anderson, Ohio Wesleyan University; Jerald Dosch, Macalester College; Kathleen LoGiudice, Union College; Bob Pohlad and Carolyn Thomas, Ferrum College; Kathy Shea, St. Olaf’s College; and Jeff Simmons, Mount Saint Mary’s University.

 

Carolyn Robinson, former college editor and director of publications at Meredith, is the author of a new book called “My Menagerie: My Life.” The book is available at Quail Ridge Books and on Amazon.com. Robinson, a 1950 graduate of Meredith, is also the author of “The Vision Revisited: A History of Meredith College 1971-1998,” the second volume of Meredith history.

 

Shadow of SilkGallery Director Ann Roth has work in two exhibitions this fall. Her work is included in the 2011 Regional Showcase featuring work by 2009, 2010 and 2011 United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County Regional Artist Program Grant recipients, in Meymandi Concert Hall, Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, Raleigh. This exhibition continues through October 18. Roth is featured in a two person show with Jenny Lou Sherburne at the Wilson Arts Council, September 29-November 6, 2011.

 

Tricia Strong, staff accompanist, Encore director and voice class teacher, recorded an anthem this summer for the Long Leaf Pine Society, an organization dedicated to promoting pride in North Carolina and its citizens. The society also released the recording of Strong’s 2003 fourth/fifth grade choir from North Raleigh Christian Academy singing an arrangement of the anthem, which she and her husband, Scott, arranged. Professor of Art Jane Terry will be exhibiting selected video work in “Memory, Myth and Meaning,” a curated exhibition at Artspace in Raleigh, featuring the work of three artists exploring concepts of memory and ritual. The exhibition will be held in Gallery Two from September 17 through October 29. There will be an opening reception from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. on October 7.
