Starbucks Coffee Now Available in the Library

Submitted by Ted Waller

StarbucksStarbucks in the Library? Oh, yes!  This fall the Campbell Library is pleased to announce the arrival of a Starbucks coffee machine.

If you haven’t seen a Starbucks machine before, there’s a good reason why. Starbucks is fanatical about the quality of their coffee, and it wasn’t until about two years ago that they were able to develop a machine up to their standards. The result is a machine that grinds fresh beans for every cup, produces a higher temperature product than others, and uses about four times as much coffee per cup than other companies.

Another interesting aspect of our new machine is that it takes credit and debit cards only, no cash. We find that this is what many students prefer, and it means no more scrounging around for change.  All drinks are $1.50.

The new machine offers regular, decaf and hot chocolate. In addition, we have a variety of flavored creamers including Irish Crème, French Vanilla and Hazelnut. Come on over, try a cup, and tell us what you think.

On August 27, President Jo Allen presented a certificate of congratulations and a crystal bowl featuring the Meredith seal to Wei Wu, a DUFE faculty member who is a current visiting professor at Meredith. Photos from the event and the gifts are being sent to the president of DUFE.

Academic & Career Planning (ACP) Resources for At-Risk Students

Submitted by Candice Fisher Webb

As faculty and staff are working with students in your classes or students that you advise, please be aware of resources offered by Academic & Career Planning (ACP) for students who might be experiencing academic difficulty.

  • The Early Warning system is a partnership between ACP and faculty to identify & assist students who may be exhibiting at-risk behaviors. These behaviors might include excessive absences, low test scores, missing assignments, and observed changes in demeanor or behavior. If you interact with students exhibiting these behaviors, please consider submitting an Early Warning referral using the form available here: www.meredith.edu/acp/earlywarning.htm  Upon receiving your form, an ACP staff member will follow up with you, and will reach out to the student to suggest strategies for academic success. As the name implies, the Early Warning system is intended to intervene as early in the semester as possible in order to give students the opportunity to adjust and correct their behavior.
  • ACP also offers workshops and individualized assistance for students on a variety of academic success topics including time management, study skills, stress management, and effective note- and test-taking. We encourage students to contact our office to schedule an appointment with one of our advisors.

Academic & Career Planning looks forward to assisting faculty and staff as they help students achieve their academic and career goals. Please feel free to call on us with questions or concerns. We're accessible by phone at (919) 760-8341 or by email at advising@meredith.edu
