Faculty/Staff Accomplishments
  • The Carol Finley Dance Group performed work choreographed by Associate Professor of Dance Carol Finley with It Must Have Been Violet Dance Productions at Center for Performance Research in Brooklyn, New York in August, on October 14 as part of the NC Dance Alliance Annual Conference, and will perform on a concert with other professors from North Carolina at UNC-Greensboro October 20-22. Finley and Meredith alumnae are performers for the group. 
  • Dan FountainAssociate Professor of History Dan Fountain was inducted into the Historical Society of North Carolina during the Society’s October 14 fall meeting held on the campus of UNC-Charlotte. The Society was founded in 1945 and is dedicated to the study and promotion of North Carolina history.  

    Admission to membership is by nomination only and the Society is limited to a total of 75 active members.  Fountain was nominated for membership by Ansley Wegner, a research historian for the North Carolina Office of History & Archives, Deputy Secretary of the North Carolina Office of History & Archives Jeffrey Crow, and William Price, former Deputy Secretary of the North Carolina Office of History & Archives and Meredith professor.   • Professor Emerita of History Carolyn Happer and Morris Glass were the featured speakers at “History a la Carte” at the North Carolina Museum of History on October 12. They talked about Mr. Glass’s experiences during the Holocaust as described in their book “Chosen for Destruction.
  • Departmental Assistant Jeannette Rogers, of the Department of Music, Dance, Theatre and Communication, will be a participant in a reception in the Progress Energy Center downtown on October 18 for recipients of Regional Artist Project Grants from the United Arts Council from 2008-2010. With the support of the Regional Artists Grant, Rogers went to France in 2009 to work with French poet Miquel Decor on translations of his writing.
