“Playhouse Creatures” by April de Angelis
November 9-14, 2010
Studio Theatre
Meredith Ensemble Theatre will present “Playhouse Creatures” by April de Angelis, November 9-14.
This juicy historical drama looks at Charles II's reign when, for the first time in English history, women were allowed to perform on the stage. A rollicking, bawdy story, full of rude hilarity, earthy comedy and heartbreak, this show proves that the seventeenth century was quite fun!
Performances are Tuesday-Saturday, November 9-13 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, November 14 at 3 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of Jones Hall.
Meredith faculty, staff and students can attend free. Public tickets are $10 general admission, $5 for students/seniors. Call the Meredith College Box Office at (919) 760-2840 or email boxoffice@meredith.edu to reserve seats.

“Hiding: North Korean Refugees”
A film and discussion presented by Liberty in North Korea
November 10, 7 p.m.
Ledford 101
"Hiding" is a film about a group of North Korean refugees hiding in China today, and exposes their struggles to survive. While the world focuses on North Korea's security issue, hundreds of thousands of North Koreans continue to be enslaved in prison camps today. Up to 300,000 have also escaped to China seeking food, medicine, work, or freedom from political and religious oppression. Among the 300,000, 70 to 90 percent of North Korean women are trafficked and sold into the sex trade, and more and more refugees are fleeing to Southeast Asia to escape imprisonment upon repatriation by China.
The organization presenting the documentary, Liberty in North Korea (LiNK), helps to shelter North Korea refugees in Asia and to re-settle them in South Korea, Europe, and the United Stated. The film will be followed by a discussion with "nomads" from the group Liberty in North Korea (LiNK), who travel the country raising awareness about this humanitarian crisis.
