As a part of our commitment to closely manage College resources, the Budget Planning and Management Team and the Senior Management Team (SMT) have agreed that every open position in the College must come to SMT for discussion about where it can best be used. I want to share some openings and recent hires that have been discussed and approved by SMT.
• Admissions will be searching to replace a full-time admissions counselor.
• Institutional Advancement – has used salary savings from changed positions to hire a new part-time gift officer whose focus will be on planned giving. Kristye Brackett, a Meredith alum who is a Certified Financial Planner, comes to us from Duke.
• Natural and Mathematical Sciences - will be using grant funds to hire an additional math educator.
• Music – will change responsibilities and workloads to assign the anticipated new position of choral director to Dr. Fran Page. This will allow the department to avoid a search for a new faculty member and maintain all current full-time faculty.
Steve Walters, college budget manager, is in the process of putting together our first quarter budget analysis (looking at both our current and projected revenues and expenditures). We will share this with both the Board of Trustees and the campus when they are complete.
If you have not taken a ride through the tunnel recently, go by and visit. The class of 2011 has been busy and the tunnel is looking very good!
