Associate Professor of Nutrition Susan Fisher was quoted as an expert source in an article in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The article, published February 4, 2011, is about the trend of downsized groceries sold for the same price. Click here to read the story.

Associate Professor of Art Shannon Johnstone ran in the 20th anniversary Uwharrie Mountain Run on February 5. She finished the 40-mile race in 7 hours, 51 minutes, and 3 seconds, coming in first out of all the women runners and 11th overall.

Johnstone offered these details on the race: “Except for a few hundred yards of road, the race is completely done on single track trails—lots of hills, stream crossings, roots and rocks. If you are a woman and you finish the 40 mile race in under eight hours, you become part of the "Organ Donor" club. I am now one of 16 women who have made it on to the list. I won a vase made by a local potter with clay that came from the Uwharrie Forest.”
