The N.C. Dance Festival (NCDF) will open its 22nd season in Jones Auditorium at Meredith College on September 7 and 8, 2012, at 8 p.m.
The weekend of performances will run two nights, with a different show each night. Friday night’s performance will feature work by Autumn Mist Belk (Code f.a.d Company), Gaspard Louis (Gaspard and Dancers), Jan Van Dyke (Van Dyke Dance Group), Gary Taylor (Winston-Salem Festival Ballet), and Ashley Spears. On Saturday, John Gamble (John Gamble Dance Theater), E.E. Balcos (EE MOTION), Lauren Kearns (The Kearns Dance Project), Carol Finley (Carol Finley Dance Group), and Ashley Spears will present dances.
As part of the NCDF weekend, Meredith College will also present the annual All-Dance Festival on Sunday, September 9 at 3 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. The Festival will feature performances by the multigenerational Rainbow Dance Company, youth from NC Dance Institute, Enloe High School, and Cary Academy, young adults from Meredith College and NC State University, and seniors from Carolina Preserve Dance Company.
The Festival is an annual production of the Dance Project, under the direction of Jan Van Dyke. Dance Project, Inc., is a non-profit organization that has been operating in North Carolina since 1989, coordinating the NC Dance Festival, directing the dance program at City Arts, and managing Artistic Director Jan Van Dyke’s current company, the Van Dyke Dance Group. The Festival establishes a network of venues for professional regional choreography and performance, expanding accessibility of dance throughout the state while raising the profile of North Carolina’s own artists. The Dance Project strives to build the state’s dance community and create an open, supportive environment where ideas can be shared. The NC Dance Festival encourages the public in the arts, particularly in terms of building awareness and exposure to contemporary dance.
