Athletics Update:  2013 Athletic Banquet Highlights Student-Athlete Achievement, Summer Sports Camp Registration

Meredith College Athletic Director Jackie Myers and her staff hosted the 2013 Athletic Banquet April 24. The event highlighted athletic and academic achievements of the more than 100 student-athletes participating on one of Meredith’s seven varsity sports teams. During the 2012 calendar year, nearly 60% of the student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 grade point average each semester. The softball team edged out volleyball for the distinguished honor of Highest Team GPA with an aggregate of 3.32.

 

Beginning in 1998, each Meredith head coach presents the Dean Burris Coach's Award annually to the individual who best exemplifies integrity, persistence, enthusiasm and support, as demonstrated by Dr. Allen Burris during his tenure with the College. An advocate for athletics, Burris joined Meredith in 1969 as the dean of the college and professor of history and retired in 1998 as senior vice-president for academic affairs. Burris and his son joined the event as a special guest for the first time during Myers' leadership, and she presented Burris with a custom Meredith throw to honor his legacy.
