Accepted Students Experience Meredith!
On Saturday, April 2, Experience Meredith!, an annual event for accepted students sponsored by the Office of Admissions, was held. Students who know that Meredith is the right place for them and students who are still making their choice attend Experience Meredith! It is the perfect day for accepted students to discover what first-year students (and their families) need to know. Students also get a head start on Fall Orientation by meeting potential classmates, professors and staff.
We had 199 students attend this year's event. Of those students who attended, 120 were admitted students, 77 had made deposits and two were incomplete applicants. Forty-two admitted students paid their deposits throughout the day at Experience Meredith. The 199 students who attended brought 282 guests, bringing the total attendance to 481. Students came from Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia for the event.
The event was supported by student volunteers from White Iris Circle, Meredith Hues Program, and the Class of 2013, who will be the incoming students' big sis class. Information sessions were held in the morning featuring presenters from the Meredith community, including Garry Walton, Marie Sumerel, Jennifer Schum, Tabitha Underwood, Tomecca Sloane, Beth Meier, Kevin Michaelsen, Jackie Myers, Ann Gleason, Chrissie Bumgardner, Heidi LeCount, Dana Sumner, Kevin Morrison, and Amy Losordo. Betsy Dunn-Williams organized the Student Activities Fair, which included Meredith College clubs and organizations. The event also included an Academic Fair in the afternoon, which was comprised of professors and current students from all academic areas and student support services.
Experience Meredith! included a new component, which was a Person-to-Person Bingo activity. It was an effort to help students get to know and mingle with other students. Students had to complete the entire bingo card with signatures from incoming students, current students, faculty and staff. There was a very positive response from all the students who participated in the activity. Students had the opportunity to turn in their completed bingo card at the beginning of the Academic Fair, to be put in the raffle for a gift card to the Meredith Supply Store.
