The Carol Finley Dance Group and It Must Have Been Violet Dance Productions presents “Gleam” by Professor of Dance Carol Kyles Finley and other works by Susan Haines, Talani Torres, and Jill Guyton Nee on Sunday, June 1, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors and students. The show is free to the Meredith community. Purchase tickets here.
Finley’s newest modern dance collection, “Gleam” will feature alumnae performers Kaitlin Briggs, ’08, Kayla Mason, ‘13, Amanda McCullum, ’07, Cara Mossman, ‘13, Matney Murad, ’10, Sheryl Scott, ’10, Ashley Spears, ’09, and Courtney Patterson White, ’08, with company interns Kathleen Holbrook, ’15, and Nicole Lawson, ’16, and guest performer Bobby White. The dances in the collection each have actual and metaphorical elements that reflect, glow, or shine and the musical landscape spans rock, classical, and jazz. Finley works with character in her dances and this piece brings to us a surgeon with her quintet of patients, a washed-up rock star, and a married couple.
Finley will also screen her dance film, "Little Utopia" which she created during her Fall 2012 sabbatical. Torres, Haines, and Nee's virtual and stage works will round out the evening.
