Internationally respected ceramic artist Peter Callas will visit Meredith College on April 7. Callas will present a lecture followed by Q&A at 11 a.m. in Gaddy-Hamrick room 129, and from noon-5 p.m. he will be available for demonstrations and informal conversation in Gaddy-Hamrick room 131.
Callas spent many years in Japan working with multiple masters and Japan’s National Living Treasures. He also had a 30-year collaboration with Peter Voulkos, the most recognized ceramic artist of the 20th century.
Callas is the guest of Meredith Assistant Professor of Art Warner Hyde. “Peter is an engaging and exciting artist, and I hope the campus community will take advantage of this one of a kind opportunity,” Hyde said.
Hyde and Callas have a joint show in Charlotte, N.C., at the Elder Gallery. The show, titled Respect opens on April 4 and runs through April 26.
